All Booster Shots are Approved- Why is it Important?
The FDA finally approved the booster shots for Moderna and Johnson & Johnson in late October. Anyone over the age of 65 is eligible. If you are over 18 and at high risk for severe illness or living and working in a highly transmissible environment, you are also eligible. For people who received the Moderna and Pfizer vaccines, boosters are recommended 6 months after full vaccination. For Johnson & Johnson, it is only 2 months.
The option to use vaccine different from the one you initially got is also available. There is no increase in effectiveness by mixing brands, but it is safe to do so. Boosters are so important right now as we get into the colder months. More people will be gathering indoors, and Covid will be spreading at a much faster rate than it did in the warmer months. Many people are also limiting social gatherings to only include those who are fully vaccinated.
If you are worried about excluding people from your family and social events, you can also practice social distancing and ask your guests to wear a mask if they are unvaccinated against the Coronavirus. At this point, it is up to you and what you are comfortable with.
